LETTER FROM THE LEFT

The author is a supporter of Socialism who writes about the failings of Democracy and the façade that it is and its evils and how Democracy and Capitalism are very different, and most importantly how Socialism the best option for African development.
The views expressed in this article are entirely of the author and are in no way the views or opinions of the website.

Lately I have been pondering over the issue of persons engaged in professions that begin with the letter P, and how the majority of these persons are just so greedy, selfish and greatly untruthful. When I think of politicians, prostitutes, pastors, and pub proprietors, the chorus from M.I.A’s ‘Paper planes’, plays in my head; “all I wanna do is take your money.”
You see I am of the view, that most persons in these professions are liars, who charm with sweet words and pretend to be your friend, show you false love and affection pretending to care for your well being when all they want to do is rob you blind.
So today I want to talk about one species of this group, namely politicians, more in particular opposition politicians, the biggest liars and opportunists of them all.
The opposition should not take advantage of people’s frustrations with the Government and ride on the tide of the public protests and gain cheap political mileage by pretending to be genuinely concerned with the well being of the common Malawian.
Like H.E famously said on that sweet day at Comesa Hall, when he quoted Peter Tosh (R.I.P), “you can fool some people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.” Any person who has a high level of education should understand that for a country to start experiencing social and economic development it begins with the Laws of the Land, and it is Parliament that makes and amends the said laws.
Our country is failing to make significant progress in social and economic development because of outdated and unfair laws. Economists have for a long time complained about the problem of it taking way too long to register and start a business in Malawi, plus there are the outdated Penal Code and several other Acts that need to be fixed, yet once upon a time (2004-2009), when the opposition had a majority in the August House and therefore the power to vote for or against any Bill, all they were concerned about was Section 65, and impeaching H.E., why ladies and gentlemen, well the simple answer is greed!
All they wanted were the reins of power for themselves. Opposition leaders whether from the Malawi Congress Party(MCP), or the United Democratic Front(UDF), should never claim that they genuinely have in their hearts the good of all the people and would run the country professionally, corrupt free, democratically, if give a chance to rule.
Malawians should wake up and realize that every politician’s dream is to be president, and not for the purpose of developing the nation and uplifting the lives of Malawians, nah but rather to have absolute power, be the big honcho and have everyone bow down to them, while enriching themselves at the expense of public coffers.
If the opposition genuinely cares for change and wants to remove the Government so that they can put in place better development strategies, economic policies, and better governance and rule of law, then why are they 30 something opposition parties in such a tiny country like Malawian, when the United States only has three (the Republicans, the Democrats and the Tea Party). What is even funnier is the fact that in these opposition parties there is constant infighting over party presidencies. If someone is elfish and autocratic at party level, then do you really think things will change once they are President?
Am I wrong but didn’t Vice President Joyce Banda say one of the reasons she left the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), was because the President did not honor a promise he made to her of handing the Presidency over to her in 2014.
Think about, they say that the best way to become a billionaire in Africa is to become Head of State.
