Bakili Muluzi is all praises for Joyce Banda’s leadership

Malawi former president Bakili Muluzi has spoken in support of President Joyce Banda’s performance in the first 100 days of her presidency.

“President Banda has restored Malawi’s relations with her bilateral and multilateral donors, bringing back donor confidence,” applauded Muluzi in an interview with Zodiak Radio.

“This is good for the economy, as it will mean donor inflow will continue, leading to the growth of the economic growth.”

Muluzi, who ruled Malawi from 1994 to 2004, also expressed happiness at having one of her former ministers to be President.

“Apart from that President Joyce Banda was also Director of Women in UDF. She is an experienced political leader” said Muluzi.

Commenting on Section 65, Muluzi said the public should not fault the President on the section because the matter rests in the hands of Speaker of Parliament.

“The president is not an MP and should not be dragged into matters of the National assembly,” said Muluzi adding;

“That issue can be handled ably by the speaker and should be left to the national assembly alone.”

However, Muluzi praise of the new leader might be a thin veil of appeal for leniency in his corruption trial which has been postponed until August this year.

Muluzi is answering charges of having swindled the nation more than K1.6 billion and his trial has been dragging for ages during the tenure of the late Bingu wa Mutharika and under the fallen Anti-Corruption chief Alex Nampota.
