Malawian athletes at the London Olympics told to stay united

Malawian athletes at the London Olympics have been advised to maintain the spirit of dedication and oneness in order to excel in the tournament.

Four athletes are representing Malawi at the competition which is scheduled to kick off on 28 August.

Deputy high commissioner in London John Tembo junior gave the advice when he welcomed the team on Monday at a colorful event held at the Olympic Village in the city.

Tembo thanked the community and staff of University of Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire Consortium for providing all the necessities to the athletes during their month long training camp.

On his part, Convenor of the Gloucestershire Consortium and representative of the Gloucestershire University Professor David James said it was a proud moment to host the Malawi team of athletes at the university campus.

James said the athletes and coaches from Malawi made a lasting impression on Gloucestershire and have been exposed to numerous primary schools, sports clubs, and community
groups for practice.

And the Mayor of the Olympic Village , Sir Charles Allen, told the Malawi team that they should embrace the Olympic culture of enjoying peace and tranquillity, through interaction in sporting events.
