Ex-chief of Anti Corruption Bureau Alex Nampota agrees to settle out of court with govt

Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) former chief Alex Nampota and government are reported to have agreed to settle their dispute out of court.

Nampota was fired soon after Bingu wa Mutharika died and People Party took power. He was also subsequently arrested over his abusing of financial benefits.

Secretary for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Anthony Kamanga, confirmed government is discussing with Nampota on how best to resolve their differences.

Nampota’s lawyer, who refused to be named, said it was too early to comment on the matter.

“It is the wish of both parties to settle the issue out of court but I will only discuss the issue with you at an appropriate time,” said the lawyer.

Nampota has headed the ACB since 2007 and it has been seen as inefficient and was only pursuing cases which involved political opponents of the previous Mutharika regime.
