Parliament under corruption probe over K200 million furniture deals

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has said investigations into the National Assembly over the procurement of the K200 million furniture for the new Parliament are underway.

The bureau launched the investigations in 2010 following the procurement of the furniture through some undisclosed companies allegedly without tendering process.

ACB senior public relations officer Egrita Ndala said in a questionnaire response on Thursday that the bureau has not dropped the investigations.

However, like was the case in 2010, the bureau is not disclosing particulars of the subjects of the investigations.

“The investigations in relation to the procurement of furniture at Parliament has not been finalised yet,” that is all Ndala could say.

The landmark building under the leadership of the late president Bingu wa Mutharika, which was built with financial support from the People’s Republic of China, has 288 seats, catering and banking facilities.
