MSCE results out by end November

Results of the 2012 Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations will be released by the end of this month, the Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb) has said.

Maneb spokesperson Gerald Chiunda said in an interview on Thursday that everything is almost done and an official announcement will be made before the month ends.

He said marking was completed in September and data entry was done in October.

“We are almost there. Last year, we released the results on December 4, but this year we might beat that record. There is nothing seriously remaining except doing final touches,” said Chiunda.

However, Face of Malawi can confirm that the MSCE results last year were released on October 19.

Chiunda said what consumed more time was the tracking and verification of single subjects sat by some candidates through upgrading.

Ministry of Education, Science and Technology spokesperson Lindiwe Chide said after marking and moderation and having been satisfied, Maneb will send the results to the ministry for release.

She said she did not know when the results would be out. Chide said the ministry is the last institution that handles the results before releasing them.

MSCE examinations were taken last July amid reports of leakage of some papers, but the ministry said they could not disturb the administration of the examinations.

In recent years, MSCE examinations results have been poor. For example, in 2010 about 53 percent of the candidates passed whereas in 2011, 54 percent qualified for the award of the certificate.
