For the first time ever, Malawi Fashion Week takes place in Lilongwe from May 30 to June 3 2013 where models and designers will display their fashion designs, among other sizzling activities.
The event has been organised by Elegant Resources by ArianaLoise of Dawa Loga-Lemberger in partnership with African Dzuwa Magazine owned by veteran media guru, Chikumbutso Mtumodzi.
“ That is, other than local cream and talent, arrangements have been made to work closely with Africa Fashion International (AFI) to spice it up and add colour to the Malawi Fashion Week,” reads a statement from the organisers.
The objective is to create a platform for the Malawi Fashion Designers in order to showcase state of the art designs that will be available for purchase to fashion houses and buyers.
“We want Malawi Fashion to be raised to the next level. We are in the global village which means our expertise, exposure and experience after this event must have no limits. Color, gender, style, look, race, creed, religion, country, and nationality is irrelevant to what we want to achieve.”
According to the organisers, the event is open to international fashion designers and models so that Malawi fashion designers and models can improve and develop their skills with exposure from other cultural influences through networking.
“In addition to all these, we are also putting together a magazine that will cover fashion in Malawi where we will be interviewing designers, vendors, shop owners, fashion writers to see what their impact has been on the country’s fashion for in the last five years,” further reads the statement.
Meanwhile, there are plans that on the day of the launch of the Malawi Fashion Week there will be an after Party to give an opportunity for designers and all those who love the real African Culture and music to mingle.
