Flames up from 111 to 109 on Fifa rankings

Malawi national football team’s recent 1-0 win over Namibia’s Warriors in the World Cup Qualifiers, has enabled the Flames to jump from 111 to 109 on the latest Fifa Coca-Cola rankings.

The Flame have also dive nosed from position 30 to 32 in the 54 ranked African teams, according to the rankings released Thursday.

However, it has managed to maintain position six in the 14-member Southern Africa Football Association (Cosafa) bloc.

South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, who are second in the Cosafa bloc, are on position 62 in the world and 11th in Africa, whereas Zambia are ranked 47th in the world, seventh in Africa and on position one in Cosafa.

Ivory Coast, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria, Algeria and Tunisia make up the Africa’s top six while Spain are still world’s number one followed by Germany, Argentina, Croatia and Portugal in that order.

Meanwhile, the Flames have earned Cosafa Senior Challenge Cup semi-finals berth as they were seeded following the latest rankings.

The Cosafa senior challenge cup will take place in Zambia from July 6 to 21 this year.
