Malawi is the second largest tea producer in Africa and 12th in the world,it is estimated that Malawi supplies approximately 10 percent of tea produced on the African continent.
During the opening of 2013/2014 budget session president Dr Joyce Banda announced that her goverment will establish the countrys tea market.
WHAT IS IT?
It is the public of tea whereby prospective purchasers bid against each other until the highest price is reached.Mombasa is the largest tea centre in Africa and second in the world.
HOW WILL IT HELP MALAWI?
Through this system all tea produced in Malawi will be sold locally,this will help Malawi to maximise foreign exchange earnings from tea sales.Furthermore Malawi will be able to overcome the foreign exchange lean period.
