State President of the Republic of Malawi Dr. Joyce Banda was openly told that she has to do her home work  best with party followers following news that her People’s Party (PP) youths used a burial ceremony of High court Judge Joseph Manyungwa as a campaign tool.
According to local media reports reaching us from Bvumbwe, where it is deemed to be one of the areas where the former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) commands large following, it all started when PP youths started uprooting DPP flags on the way to the funeral as well as at the Trading Centre.
“Instead they erected PP flags making people to wonder as to why the whole funeral was being politicized by the ruling party,” a person who only identified himself as Mr. Kanjo told the media.
As if that was not enough embarrassment for the ruling party, PP members were also seen distributing Orange T-shirts to some people at the funeral ceremony while DPP followers were also seen in their blue attire.
According to the local Nation newspaper, the development to distribute orange PP T-shirts did not go down well with the youthful Chief Bvumbwe who openly told the President that a repeat of the same was not welcome in his area in as far as funeral ceremonies were concerned.
“Madam President I want to say what has happened here. Your boys were distributing T-Shirts. This is bad and degrading. It should never happen again, if you want, hold a rally and distribute the T-Shirts there,” the Nation has quoted Chief Bvumbwe as saying adding that his statement attracted hand clapping from most of the people attending the ceremony.
The newspaper institution says that PP Regional Director for the youth in the South Lemani Chapitapansi was involved in the distribution of the orange T-Shirts and went to an extent of giving them to grave diggers.
Later drama followed the proceedings of the ceremony when DPP Regional Governor for the South Noel Masangwi and party publicity secretary Nicholas Dausi were called to lay their wreaths.
“As the men approached the grave, some people were chanting Boma! Boma! Boma!,” our source said.
Speaking on behalf of the Head of State who was grief stricken, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Ralph Kasambara said the death of Manyungwa was a big blow to the judiciary and the nation at large.
