The Ntchisi First Grade Magistrate Court has convicted and sentenced Justin Chimunthu, 25, to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL) for defiling a 10 year-old girl.

Ntchisi Police spokesperson Gladson M’bumpha said the court heard that the convict Chimunthu on June 28 this year defiled girl at Kapala village in the area of Traditional Authority Chilooko in the district.

He said the convict coaxed the girl into his house by offering her some oranges. Passing judgement, First Grade Magistrate Dorothy Kalua said the offence was serious and the offender deserved a stiffer penalty to deter would be offenders.

M’bumpha said Chimunthu hails from Chikuta village in the area of Traditional Authority Chilooko in Ntchisi. – Reported by Simeon Maganga
