Government resolves UNIMA wrangle, Colleges ordered to reopen

The planned vigils at parliament in Lilongwe on Wednesday by frustrated University of Malawi students have been averted in infancy, FaceofMalawi has it.

Information sourced indicates that government, through the University Council, has finally bowed down to the demands of the lecturers and support staff of the University of Malawi by honoring its promise that it raises in its salaries.

According to an e-memo by the President of the University of Malawi students body, Steve Kumvenji, government has finally honoured the demands of the lecturers and the support staff to have their salaries hiked effective July 1, 2013.

In the same spirit, the University Council has advised all the Colleges of UNIMA but one which had not been closed, College of Medicine, to have the Colleges opened as soon as possible since the issue has been resolved now.
