The police, as usual, claim the suspect committed suicide. The family cannot be reached for comment. The truth is Mustapha Bwanali is no more. He was found hanging in a police cell at Cape Maclear Police Unit.
Mustapha Bwanali, 29, was arrested on Friday after Police received a tip-off from a businessperson that Bwanali was selling private parts of a male person.
It is alleged that Bwanali had gone to the businessperson to sell him the ‘goods’ before the businessperson turned on him and reported him to Police. The police arrested him the same day and he was locked up at the Police Unit. On Saturday, he was found dead.
According to Mangochi Police Spokesperson, Rodrick Maida, Bwanali hanged himself using a string from his T-shirt as he was the only suspect in the cell.
