Government backtracking on Chasowa case

The case in which a Polytechnic student, Robert Chasowa, was allegedly slain by then ruling Democratic Progressive Party thugs has stalled with government not expressing any optimism to continue with it.

When President Joyce Banda ascended to power, she instituted a commission of inquiry into the death of Robert Chasowa and the results of the commission showed that the student was murdered and did not commit suicide as the police had said then.

From the results of the inquiry, arrests were made of some DPP top officials before they were released on bail.

However, months down the line, government has conceded that the case need more and proper investigations. The development which has been carried by the local media has raised doubts over the handling of the issue and subsequently how the same government will be successful in prosecuting people currently being implicated in the Cash gate scandal that saw the plunder of state resources at Capitol Hill.
