Reputable Small and medium Entrepreneurs stand to benefit from United States based entrepreneurs who have expressed interest to invest in the country.
The National Association for Small and Medium Entrepreneurs-NASME made this revelation through its national coordinator William Mwale who was in Lusaka Zambia for a COMESA seminar.
The yet to be named American investors are said to be looking for opportunities in Agriculture, Tourism and Hospitality.
“They are looking for SMEs that are financially prudent with positive bank statements.” Mwale said at his arrival from Zambia last week.
NASME is an executive member of COMESA and this has created an opportunity for local SMEs to be represented in the block’s business meetings.
One such gathering is where delegates of US firms expressed their interest to open business outlets in southern Africa including Malawi.
However Mwale has expressed fears over the country’s state of economy, which he described as not investor friendly, specifically the shortages of electricity power supply and foreign exchange supply.
In the meantime it is not yet known on when are these companies will practically roll out their operations.
This comes barely weeks after Fresh Waters – a UK based conglomerate also made advances on its interest to invest in the country.
Fresh Waters’ plans to also operate in Malawi is currently being facilitated by the Malawi Investment and Trade Center, MITC.
