Malawi’s Ng’ambi ranks highly in South African football as coach fears of losing him

Platinum Stars coach Allan Freese says he is “very worried” about losing star player Robert Ng’ambi.

There has been growing speculation that the Malawian international will leave them in the January transfer window, and he has been linked with a move to big-spending Mamelodi Sundowns.

When asked if he thinks Ng’ambi will stay with the club, Freese says: “I don’t know, and I’m very worried – where will I get another Ng’ambi now?

“We [Platinum Stars management] have spoken a little about what players to look at in the new season but I’m saying I hope nobody comes.”

Freese believes the balance of the team and the understanding between the players is what has brought them success thus far, and he does not want to upset that.

Ng’ambi joined Platinum Stars from Black Leopards at the beginning of the 2012\13 season – and was in fact linked to Sundowns back in 2011.

He has had an outstanding year for the side.

The versatile midfielder played a instrumental role as the team finished second on the log last season, and in their MTN8 and Telkom Knockout successes this season.

The 27-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the 2014/15 season, with Dikwena having the option to renew it for a year.
