Reports  indicate that about 2000 Mozambican have fled their homeland to Malawi because of the reports that gunmen from former rebel movement were operating in the province where they live.

Mozambique’s state news agency’, AIM , reported yesterday.

The report said that gunmen had entered the northwestern province of Tete from Sofala, a province where fighters from the Renamo movement clashed with government troops last year.

The Civilians then fled from  Tete across the border into Malawi especially Mwanza district.

Tete was severely affected by a civil war in Mozambique between Renamo and the Frelimo movement which now govern  the country.

A peace deal between two sides was signed in 1992.

The tension between the two sides have resurfaced a head of the general elections in October.
