GOVERNMENT DISOWNS LEAKED FORENSIC AUDIT REPORT

The leaked forensic audit report has been dismissed by government as untrue and not the report that government has presented before Parliament yesterday.

Speaking to the press in Lilongwe yesterday, the finance minister indicated that according to the report they had which was duly signed by the forensic auditors and could be verified by them, Cashgate had cost Malawians money not more than MK 7 billion. This was in contrast to what the laeked report indicates which pegged the amount of money ‘cashgated’ to over MK 16 billion.

When asked on the implication of the RBM governor in the report and what government was intending to do about it, the finance minister was quick to fire which report the journalist had read initially meaning that in the report that was presented to Parliament was not the one that has been circulating around which has the implication of the governor of the Reserve bank.

On Sunday, a report said to be a forensic audit report was leaked on the internet and went viral amongst Malawians. The report detailed, albeit without mentioning names, which ministries had been involved in the Cashgate and on what sums of money.

Whereas the Cashgate had been said to have cost Malawians money of over MK 20 billion, the report brought the figure down but finance minister, Maxwell Mkwezalamba, has argued otherwise.
