Lilongwe Water Board launches tree planting exercise, expects to plant 25,000 tree seedlings

The Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) expects to plant 25,000 tree seedlings in its water catchment area in Malingunde this week.

Continuous wanton cutting down of trees and environmental
degradation is threatening the supply of water in the city.

In a published statement, the Board is calling on the public to shoulder the initiative of planting more trees in addition to the 212,000 trees that have been planted since 2005.

According to LWB, this will help the Malingunde catchment area to have continuous flow of water and hence increase continuous supply of clean water to the city.

Lilongwe has been one of the cities that have been greatly hit by irregularities of water.

Mtsiriza, Chilinde and area 23 have been the victims of the continuous low supply of water by the board.
