CHAKWERA SIGNS PLEDGE CARD WITH OXFAM

As several parties in the country are busy doing campaign so that come May 20 they are voted into the high office, Malawi congress Party, (MCP), Presidential torchbearer Dr Lazarus Chakwera on Friday signed a pledge card with Oxfam Malawi in which it is committed to ensuring that accessible and profitable agricultural market if voted into power.

After the signing ceremony that took place at Nkhotakota Community ground, MCP president  said his party was privileged to be the first one to make the pledge, which is aimed at restoring functional agricultural produce markets in the country.

“If voted into power, MCP will be entailed to rethink about the fiscal year so as to provide adequate and timely funding to the Ministry of Agriculture and the rest of the government departments. This will enable both our farmers to sell their produce timely and government to plan properly”, said Chakwera.

In his remarks, Oxfam Malawi Media and Communications Coordinator Daud Kayisi  said the solutions to functional agricultural markets starts with political leaders because they are policy makers.

Apart from MCP president, five aspiring (MPs) also signed the pledge card.
