MEC IN CAR CRISIS

As the election day draws near, reports indicate that Malawi Electoral Commission(MEC) has been hit by shortage of vehicles, risking the process of ballot papers delivery and collection.

MEC needed about 500 vehicles for the smooth operation of the May tripartite election but the body has just managed to secure less than 100 vehicles.

In his speech, MEC chief elections officer Willie Kalonga confirmed the development  by saying government is aware of the problem and is going to act on the matter.

The crisis has not spared the ongoing voter verification exercise as reports indicate that in some centers election teams could walk with voter’s rolls.

Meanwhile, it is not yet known as to how soon will the government intervene on the situation bearing in mind the time factor.
