BRITAIN SPEAKS TOUGH ON RIGGING

British High Commissioner to Malawi Michael Nevin has  warned any party that want to get into power through back door  that it will land itself in cold war with donors especially Britain .

He sounded the warning on Saturday during World Press Freedom Day commemorations that took place in Lilongwe.

“Of course we should keep our eyes open for any evidence of the malpractice, and highlight it if found. We will listen and respond to genuine complaints or evidence or attempts to fix the election. As I have said before, any party that gets into power by rigging or manipulating an election will find a very different relationship with British government than if they won by fair means.

“We do not support any political party and have an interest only in free fair and credible and safe electoral process. But we are yet to hear any suspicions of rigging that contain anything of substance. Let us hope that continues and Malawi reaps a democratic dividend from delivering a credible election.” he said.

Meanwhile MEC chief election officer has on several times assured Malawians of free and fair election on May 20.
