The outgoing President of the Republic Malawi Her Excellency Dr Joyce Banda who was the Presidential candidate of People’s Party in the May 20 controversial tripartite election has conceded defeat and urged all Malawians to support the newly elected President Peter Mutharika of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Banda said this through a statement released few hours from official swearing in ceremony which will take place at Blantyre High Court any minute from now.

In her speech, Banda urged all Malawians to forget their political differences  and focus on developing the nation.

The outgoing President joins the United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atupele Muluzi who has also conceded defeat and congratulated Mutharika as he take up the high office.

President Mutharika is the fifth President of the Republic of Malawi since gaining Independence in 1964.

  3. Banda deserved the defeat because she wasted a lot of time persecuting the Mutharika family instead of concentrating on governing the country. 5years for her in office would have been hell for the whole nation.
