A police officer is in police custody in Mzimba for allegedly stealing a cellphone belonging to a bus passenger who was traveling from Mzizu to Lilongwe.
The officer has been identified as Constable Gift Majiya.
Mzimba police publicist, Constable Gift Nyirongo denied to comment on the matter asking for more time.
According to Face of Malawi investigations, the accused was given a task to do a search in a bus that was traveling from Mzuzu to Lilongwe on june 11,and after the search one of the passenger complained of his phone missing.
After the Passenger realized that, Constable Majiwa was the one who took the phone, Passengers in the bus forced the driver to take the bus to Mzimba police.
But after investigation it was revealed that he was really the one who took it.
Meanwhile Mzimba police publicist has said disciplinary action will be taken against Majiya.
