Government would like to inform and remind everyone that Malawi will this year commemorate the Golden Jubilee of our Independence that we got on 6th July 1964.

This is a time to reflect on our achievements the nation has registered over the past 50 years since we attained our independence.

The celebrations will be held on 6th July, starting with an inter-denominational service of worship to be held at the Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) followed by main celebrations at celebrations at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

Activities marking the main celebrations will include a joint military parade by the Malawi Defence Force, Malawi Police Service, Malawi Prison Service and the Immigration Department, lighting of a torch to mark the beginning of another 50 years, youth displays, traditional dances and an international football match between the Malawi National Team and the Mozambique National Team.

The theme for the celebrations is:
Commemorating 50 years of Independence: Transforming our country with a shared vision, renewed commitment to hard work and integrity for sustainable development Government would like to call on all Malawians to use this period to do soul searching and see how best everyone can contribute to the social economic development of the country.
