ENERGY, MINING ECONOMIC GROWTH DRIVERS

Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining Atupele Muluzi has said government has prioritised the exploration of mining resources across the country to propel the mining sector to become an engine for growth and investment for Malawi.

Muluzi said this recently in Northern Region when he toured some of the ministry’s activities.

Muluzi said it is important to put in place measures that will promote an enabling environment for attracting investments into the sector as Malawi celebrates 50 years of independence.

The minister said government is in the process of developing a new policy plus legal and institutional frameworks that protect the country’s interest as well as spurring economic growth and development.

The Malawi government – with support from the World Bank and European Union – is carrying out a countrywide airborne geophysical survey to identify areas with mineral potential.
