GOVT TO TIGHTEN SECURITY

Since President Professor Peter Mutharika assumed the high office following the May 20 controversial tripartite election, crime late in the country have been on the rise especially in the Commercial Capital of Blantyre raising fears among residents.
For instance this week alone, about 10 incidences of murder have been registered in Blantyre only.
In reaction to the development, government has disclosed that it will soon tighten security to combat the crime which is on the rise.
Minister of Home Affairs, Paul Chibingu made the remarks on Tuesday in Lilongwe during a press briefing.
In his speech, Chibingu expressed concern over spate of crimes citing the death of Susan Muhile a Rwandese national who was brutally murdered in the wee hours of June 25 at her house in Chigumula in Blantyre.
He said in view of the incidents, his ministry and the police have established a joint investigation team from Blantyre and Limbe to intensify investigations into the cases and bring the culprits to book.
“So far we have arrested one suspect and we strongly believe that this arrest will lead us into further arrests,” said Chibingu.
The minister was accompanied by Inspector General of Police Lot Dzonzi.
