MCP PRESENT FRESH ARGUMENTS IN RECOUNT CASE

As the battle for the right winner in Lilongwe South East Constituency continues to attract comments from various stakeholders.

High Court in Lilongwe on Tuesday Morning gave a room to Malawi congress Party (MCP)contestant in the May polls for the Constituency to submit fresh arguments in the case in which he is disputing results of parliamentary elections.

High Court Registrar Justus Kishindo says the decision comes in the wake of an unexplained fire which destroyed critical evidence in the matter.

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) declared Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate in the May 20 tripartite election Bently Namasasu as a winner which did not please MCP Candidate Ulemu Msungama who later asked for Court intervention on the matter.

Upon hearing the argument presented by Msungama’s lawyer , the High Court order MEC to do recount in three polling centres.

But this did not happen as the warehouse that kept ballot papers for the disputed Constituency was burnt down hours before recount.
