BAN SELLING LIQUOR SACHETS SAYS HEALTH COMMITEE

The parliamentary health committee has supported calls on the need to ban selling of liquor sachets which are facilitating alcohol abuse by mostly the youths due to cheaper selling prices.

Citizens feel that the cheap liquor sachets that are sold on the local market are propelling the youth to become drunkards and drug and substance abusers resulting into destroying their future.

Speaking in an interview parliamentary health committee Chairperson Juliana Lunguzi said that her committee will push up the public demand to ban sell of liquor sachets issue through parliament to ensure that the youths are protected and raised to become responsible citizens.

“I think we have enough evidence out there that people don’t want sachets which currently are impacting on the health of the youths of the country and we will also be looking at issues of funding so as to deal with mental illness issues to cater for the youths who are affected by the same” said Lunguzi

Another challenge has been lack of proper messages for the youths on prevention of drug and substance abuse which has been compounded by lack of youth friendly services where the youth can access such relative information, she said.

“We will be lobbying with some of the country’s partners so that they can be able to provide support towards the need to establish youth friendly service centres which are crucial in counselling and rehabilitation of the mentally disturbed youths” explained Lunguzi

She challenged the youths to be in the fore front in confronting challenges they face so that people who see them taking lead can see that the youths are organized to qualify for tangible assistance.
