GOVT DENIES STARTING THE REGISTRATION OF CEMENT, IRON SHEETS BENEFICIARIES

The government of Malawi through Ministry of Information, Tourism, Wildlife and Culture has quashed reports that it has started registering beneficiaries for the cement and iron sheets subsidy programme.

The development comes barely a week after media reports indicate that some parts of the country registrations of the beneficiaries have started.

In his speech, Kondwani Nankhumwa said the government cannot go ahead with the registration of beneficiaries without parliament approval.

Nankhumwa, however, hinted that the government has just only proposed an allocation of K7 billion for the exercise which is awaiting Parliament’s approval.

Meanwhile FaceofMalawi has found out that registration of beneficiaries has started in Zomba, Ntcheu and Liwonde.
