MAN IN POLICE CUSTODY FOR BEING IN POSSESSION OF EMBALMING CHEMICALS

A 40 years old man is in Police custody in Dedza for allegedly being in possession of 15 litres of Formalin, chemicals used for embalming.

Dedza Police spokesperson, Sergeant Edward Kabango confirmed of the arrest and identified the suspect as Collins Msunga, a Malawian man based in South Africa.

According to the Police, the suspect was in an InterCape Bus heading back to South Africa where he resides.
Kabango identified the embalming chemical as formalin and was packed in three, 5 liltres gallons.

He explained that the suspect is a regular visitor and had arrived in the country last month and he went to his home in Nkhotakota after that he left for Nkhatabay where he proceeded his journey to South Africa through Dedza – Mozambique border post on Tuesday.

Kabango said after interrogation the suspect denied ownership of the chemicals and feigned ignorance of the stuff inside.

The suspect was expected to appear in Court on Wednesday to answer charges of illegal possession of the drug.
