MUTHARIKA REBUFFS THE CALL TO HAVE NORTHERN MALAWI

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has vehemently blasted the call by former ruling People’s party (PP) officials that Northern Region should stand alone, saying the move will bring divisions among Malawians.

Mutharika said this during the first ever political rally held at Mzuzu Upper Stadium over the Weekend since the party was voted into power on the May 20.

In his speech, Mutharika called on political, religious and traditional leaders to work together with the current Government and bury their differences if there are any.

“Let us build this country together, if they are some disagreements, then let us come together and discuss for the good of our country. Malawi is a small country so if we divide it further it will not help us; said the Malawi leader”, said Mutharika.

Mutharika was retaliating to the call by PP provincial Chair in the North, Christopher Mzomela Ngwira who was quoted in one of the daily papers in the country [Nation Newspaper] as saying, Northern region should stand alone.

According to Ngwira, this will help the region which is currently being sidelined in terms of development to be at par with other regions in terms of development in the country.

But the call has received heavy criticism from all stakeholders saying the agenda is aimed at achieving needs of few individuals.
