ONE OF THE ARMED ROBBERS WHO BROKE INTO VISCOSITY WORKSHOP ARRESTED

Police in Lilongwe have arrested one of the suspected robbers who broke into Viscosity workshop in Lilongwe on August 14, 2014 and went away with assorted items worth MK4.6 million.

Lilongwe Police Spokesperson, Kingsley Dandaula confirmed of the arrest by saying that following thorough investigations, the police rounded up the suspect in Area 24, in Lilongwe, where most of the stolen items were also recovered.

But Dandaula could not disclose the identity of the suspect, saying doing so would jeopardize the investigations.

According to the police, on the night of August 14, 2014, armed robbers stormed Viscosity workshop along Chilambula Road in the city where they tied up all guards and stole various items.

“They also stole a Toyota Hilux which was parked within the premises loaded with items such as motor-vehicle tyres, car batteries, boxes containing dismantled brand-new bicycles.

“According to the owner of the workshop, Mr. Minesh Patel, the items were to be transported to another shop in Salima the following day”, said Dandaula.

The vehicle was found dumped near Kamuzu Institute for Youth while most of the stolen items were found with the suspect who is currently in police custody.

Since President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika ascended to the high office, the country has experienced a sharp increase in robberies putting lives of Malawians at risk.
