VP LEAVES THE COUNTRY TODAY FOR ISRAEL

The country’s Vice President Saulosi Klaus Chilima is expected to leave the country today for three days official visits to Israel. Chilima has been assigned by President Professor Peter Mutharika.

This has been disclosed in a Press Statement from the Vice President’s aide, Pilirani Phiri.

According to the statement, chilima will lead a delegation of local Water and Agriculture experts on a fact finding mission on how irrigation can be developed and fully utilised in Malawi.The trip has been jointly funded by Malawi Mangoes and the world’s number one irrigation company, Netafim of Israel.

It is highly expected that the trip will greatly assist in refining the Green Belt Initiative so that it can deliver a long term sustainable irrigation projects that can attract foreign investors into the country.

The Vice President will also attend the graduation ceremony of 29 Malawian students who have been studying high value horticulture and irrigation at the Agro-Studies Division of Tel Aviv University. Malawi Mangoes has already offered to employ most of the graduates upon returning home.

The Malawi veep will also hold talks with Israeli President , Reuven Rivlin.

On his return, Vice President Chilima will on September 5 and 6 stopover in South Africa where the Malawi High Commission will brief him on investment proposals that the office has received in recent months.
