A desperate woman in Ntcheu has been arrested for reportedly offering her daughter to square a K300, 000 debt.
The woman Tabiya Zingwa found herself in between committing suicide and selling off her 15-year-old daughter, unfortunately she chose her daughter.
Tabiya Zingwa hails from Kasale village T/A Kwataine in Ntcheu district.
FOM speaking to Ntcheu police deputy police publicist Hastings Chigaru confirmed that Tabiya Zingwa was arrested after she approached a business tycoon in the district who also gave her away.
Chigaru said the business person also called in the police who effected the arrest.
The woman is expected to appear in court to answer charges of pledging to offer a child as surety, contrary to section 82 (a) of Child Care Protection and Justice Act.
The married woman reportedly did not notify her husband of the plan to sell the daughter who is a form two secondary school student.
Police say the woman wanted the girl sold at 350 thousand kwacha so as to pocket the difference.
