MPHWIYO’s CASE BACK IN COURT TODAY

As Malawi is still struggling to get back on its fit due to the plundering of public funds that happened during the rain of former President Dr. Joyce Banda late last year dubbed Cashgate scandal, former budget director Paul Mphwiyo is scheduled to continue testifying in his case where former Justice minister Ralph Kasambara and four others are accused of attempting and conspiring to murder him.

Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs spokesperson Apoche Itimu confirmed of the development to the press.

According to Itimu, the State which has eight witness to parade in this case, will today start with Mphwiyo as witness.

Itimu also said “the prosecution team will be as before” comprising Enoch Chibwana and Dziko Malunda.

The case was adjourned in July after two days of cross-examination by Kasambara because Mphwiyo was in pain and was expected to leave for South Africa for medical checkup.

During his testimony in Court as well as at his residence in Lilongwe, Mphwiyo identified the suspects as Macdonald Kumwembe and people with him as Kasambara and businessperson Pika Manondo.

But Kasambara and his co-accused denied Mphwiyo’s claims.

The plundering of Public funds at Capitol Hill dubbed cashgate scandal came to light when unknown thugs attempted to shot Mphwiyo in September last year at his residence.
