Unknown armed robbers on Wednesday night managed to beat the security system of Mzuzu Standard Bank and went away with money amounting to MK500 million.
Sources say the thieves used Standard Bank branded vehicles and duped staff at the branch.
However, the thieves were chased by security and fortunately the thieves abandoned the vehicle with the cash at Jenda before the MRA roadblock.
The thieves are reported to have diverted towards Zambia border.
Meanwhile the cash is being counted to ascertain the amount recovered so far.
At the moment no one has been arrested in connection with the robbery.
