SEVEN PEOPLE ARRESTED FOR POSSESSING 96 BAGS OF INDIAN HEMP

Police officers in Ntcheu Monday morning intercepted and confisticated 96 bags of Indian hemp, each weighing 50kg, suspected to be in transit to Blantyre from Dwangwa in Nkhotakota.

Speaking to Ntcheu police deputy publicist Constable Hastings Chigalu in an interview: “Our law enforcers stationed at Bilira police unit received a tip-off from the general public Monday morning around 8AM, describing that they were suspicious on the movement of the vehicle a 32-seater Toyota coaster registration number BP 2247.

As such, they mounted an emergency roadblock along the road in which after a while they managed to impound the vehicle and arrested seven people,” Chigalu explained.

“When interrogated, the suspects have told us that the drug belonged to their boss who sent them to Dwangwa from Blantyre on his behalf.

Our law enforcers have launched a man hunt in order to arrest the boss and find the aim behind the possession of the illegal drugs, said Chigalu.

police have also identified the seven suspects as Collins Magaso 24, Mdeka village T/A Chigalu Blantyre, Amos Kapalamula 18, Kabambe village, T/A Kanyenda Nkhotakota, Onezio Teputepu 19, Sosola village T/A Msamala Balaka, Stuart Makuta 19, Makwata village T/A Khosolo Mzimba, Samuel Mvula 33, Mteze village T/A Mzukuzuku Mzimba, Evans Sawerenga 20, Filisa village T/A Mnkhumba Phalombe and Martin Richard 34, Mbalanga village, T/A Kapeni Blantyre respectively.
