COMMENTATORS BLAST MCP’s SHADOW CABINET

Dust is refusing to settle on the resent released shadow cabinet by Malawi Congress Party (MCP) which is dominated by faces from the central region.

Many commentators who talked to FaceofMalawi said the shadow cabinet released by MCP President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is far from people’s dream of having one nation with equal representatives in government positions.

The first to comment on the issue is, Chris Chisoni of Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) said despite being so vocal in criticising the DPP government of nepotism, the recent gesture by the MCP gives it no moral ground to continue pointing fingers on the issue of nepotism.

“Grass is always greener on the other side and the problem with Malawian politicians is that they have over time adopted the holier than thou attitude when in actual sense they are all of the same feathers,” said Chisoni.

Concurring with Chisoni’s remarks Chancellor College Political analyst Blessings Chinsinga political parties including the MCP should not forget that their actions have a political bearing on Malawians in terms of perceptions and attitude.

Reacting to the development, MCP’s deputy publicist Ezekiel Ching’oma said there is nothing wrong with what his party has done claiming that every opposition party has a shadow cabinet.

Some of the faces in the ‘cabinet’ include Juliana Lunguzi as Minister of Health, Joseph Njovuyalema as Minister of Finance, Jessie Kabwila as Minister of Gender and Social Welfare, Khumbize Chiponda for Foreign Affairs, Peter Chakwantha for Justice, Vitus Dzoole Mwale for Labour and Willard Gwengwe for Trade and Industry. The party’s president Lazarus Chakwera is the ‘president’.
