MUTHARIKA APPOINTS NEW DIPLOMATS

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has made new diplomatic appointments for Ambassadors and High Commissioners which includes one of the critic to his late brother’s rule Mr. Voice Mhone.

This was disclosed in a Press Statement from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) released on Sunday signed by Chief Secretary to the Government George Mkondiwa.

“The President of the Republic of Malawi, His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 89(1)(e) of the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi has made several new diplomatic appointments for Ambassadors and High Commissioners”, reads in part the statement.

According to the Statement, Mr Voice Mhone who was the Chairperson for the Council for Non-Governmental Organizations in Malawi (CONGOMA) and the critic to President Bingu Wa Mutharika era has appointed as Ambassador to Germany, Necton Mhura, Lawyer for one of the convict to the plundering of public funds dubbed Cashgate Triza Namathanga senzani has been appointed Ambassador to the United States.

The other appoints includes: Mr. Chimango Chirwa, Ambassador to Ethiopia and the African Union, Mr. Ted. Kalebe, Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union, Mr. Yunus Mussa, Ambassador to Egypt, Dr. Chrissie Kaponda, High Commissioner to South Africa, Mr. Edward Sawerengera, Ambassador to Brazil, Mr. Thoko Banda, Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr. Frank Viyazi, High Commissioner to Mozambique.

All the newly-appointed diplomats, except Mr. Thoko Banda who was already confirmed, will go through the Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of Parliament.
