GOVT SPONSORED STUDENTS WORRIED AS GOVT IS YET TO PAY THEM THEIR ALLOWANCES

Government sponsored at Mzuzu University (Mzuni) have complained that they have gone three months without receiving their upkeep and stationary allowances.

The students who are secondary school teachers, studying University Certificate of Education (UCE) at the university revealed that they are entitled to K60 000 (about $130) per month as upkeep allowance that also covers their accommodation and K70 000 ($152) as annual stationery allowance to cater for printing, photocopying and Internet access.

The student are said to have reported for classes on September 1 this year but are yet to receive their allowances although they already provided their bank details and complaints to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

However Ministry of Education, Science and Technology acting spokesperson Manfred Ndovi revealed that there were some complications in accessing details of the students regarding the payments.

Ndovi further added that the ministry has sorted out the problems and will soon be disbursing the funds.
