Classes came to a halt on Monday at Nthungwa Primary School in Mzimba as 89 students were suspected of being poisoned.
According to the Deputy Head teacher for the school, Mr. Azizi Nyirenda the incident happened after their school played a friendly game with Chisenje Primary School on Sunday.
“We had a game with our sister school, Chisenje Primary on Sunday where we were prepared Nsima with beans and Usipa thus we thought the food was poisoned,” Said Nyirenda.
However in a separate interview with authorities from Chisenje Primary, told this publication that they suspected preparing beans with pesticides or the oil they used was not good.
Both schools are in Chikangawa Education Zone in Mzimba district.
Meanwhile Police have already been notified of the matter.
So far the 89 pupils are recovering after being treated at Mzuzu Central Hospital.
