United Democratic Front (UDF) first Vice President Igbal Omar has quashed the news that he has resigned from his post as confirmed by the Party spokesperson Ken Ndanga.
Ndanga on Sunday told the press that Omar has resigned from his post on personal grounds and that the party President who is also the Minister of Energy and Mining Atupele Muluzi has accepted his resignation.
Reacting to the news as quoted in the Nation Newspaper of Tuesday 16 2014, Omar denied quitting from the party, saying he will be the last person to make that decision.
Omar said that that during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, a member castigated and called him names in the presence of Atupele. The member then accused him of dividing the party and called for his resignation.
I got very angry and asked delegates to relieve me of my duties as vice-president, but the president refused, including all NEC members. I haven’t written any letter of resignation”, Omar was quoted as saying.
When approached for comment, Ndanga maintained his earlier announcements that Omar has resigned from the party and he has the document supporting the issue.
Meanwhile Muluzi is yet to comment on the matter.
