Some Lilongwe councillors are planning of unseating Lilongwe City Mayor Willie Chapondera.
Sources gathered by FaceofMalawi from Lilongwe council chamber, indicate that councillors are not satisfied with how the Mayor works and how sidelines councillors who are not in the DPP party.
FOM speaking to one of the councillors said: “Six months there has been no meaningful developmental project. You can compare yourself with what is happening in Blantyre. Blantyre city Mayor Noel Chalamanda is doing quite a good job than our own Chapondela.
Look what is happening now garbage are almost all over, street lights are all gone, roads in the city are in poor state,” said another councillor.
However when contacted Chapondela, refuted claims that he was doing nothing on development.
“The committees are supposed to be active and bring their development ideas to the council for discussions in the chamber,” said the Mayor.
“Mayor do not dictate development anywhere even in USA it does not go like that. Yes it is true that street lights are not working, potholes are there in our roads but what have they done as committees, are they waiting for me to go and fix street lights?” said Chapondera.
