The Inspector General of Police Paul Kanyama has warned all corrupt officers that will not tolerate corruption under his watch.
The IG made the remarks at a three-day seminar for senior police officers held Lilongwe last week on Transformational Leadership and Governance.
The reputation of police is being destroyed as numerous cases of police corruption are on the rise, said the IG.
“Let me warn all police officers to desist from corruption because if they are involved in the malpractices the long arm of law will catch up with them,” he said.
“We have noted that some police officers are working for personal gains and not to serve the public. Corruption is on the rise mostly at road blocks,” said Kanyama.
Malawi Police Service is on a mission to rebuild the lost trust and confidence among the public added the IG.
“As a police service, we should protect people instead of terrorising them. We want to see a police service that should be trusted by the public,” said Kanyama.
Further I would like to assure the public that police service is working hard to tighten security.
“No stone will be left unturned till the battle against crime is won and becomes history,” he said.
