Opposition People’s Party (PP) has hired the services of former Minister of Energy and Mining Ibrahim Matola as new General Secretary replacing Paul Maulidi.
PP vice-president Brown Mpinganjira disclosed the news on Sunday during a Press briefing held in the commercial capital Blantyre, saying Matola was elected at a meeting held at the party’s headquarters in Limbe on Friday.
Mpinganjira also disclosed that the Party has confirmed Ken Msonda as Publicity Secretary.
Msonda started serving as acting publicity secretary since the resignation of Hophmally Makande earlier this year.
On his part, Maulidi said he is not aware of the development.
“Firstly, I am hearing it from you that I have been replaced. But let me say that I don’t know under what circumstances they have done that and as for me, I am still the acting secretary general because that meeting was illegitimate”, said Maulidi.
Maulidi fell out of grace with PP after he defied the decision not to participate in the October 2014 by-elections.
This was the first meeting since the May 20 tripartite election which saw the then Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ascending to the high office.
