A 52 year old man identified as Rajab Gradwell is in police custody in Lilongwe for allegedly stabbing to death his own son in Chasapo.
Confirming the development with FaceofMalawi Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer, Kingsley Dandaula said the incident happened when the suspect Rajab and the deceased Gayse Gradwell, 20, had a quarrel which led to a fierce fight.
On January 31, 2015, the deceased (Gayse) had a quarrel with his friend at around 7 in the evening and the suspect (Rajab) wanted counsel his son to stop arguing with friends, revealed Dandaula.
“He took the son for counselling but the deceased was not happy and then he started breaking glasses of windows of his fathers’ house. The suspect tried ways to calm him but he failed up to the incident that the child took the knife to stub his father on the shoulder,” said Dandaula.
He said the father struggled but overpowered the deceased, but accidentally stabbed the son in the chest in the course.
Dandaula said the deceased was referred to Kamuzu Central Hospital for examination where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A post-mortem conducted revealed that the deceased died due to loss of blood.
He said the suspect will appear before court soon to answer charges of murder contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code.
