The performances at the Cassper Nyovest show held at the College of Medicine complex in Blantyre last Saturday produced mixed reactions among the urban musicians who attended the show.

Fredokiss, one of the artists at the show complained about the poor quality of the equipment used. “The voices were not audible enough, organizers need to be serious”, he said.

Phyzx, another artist who performed at the show, concurred with Fredokiss. “The equipment let us down. Even Cassper was upset with the quality of the sound, and left the venue very frustrated”, he said.

Phyzx also believed the entry fee for the show was too expensive. “Many people were unable to come due to the high fee that was supposed to be paid”, he said.

The door entry fees were K 6,000 and K 10,000 for standard entry and VIP respectively.

However, Theo Thompson who attended the show begs to differ. “The sound was fine but the local artists are the ones who were not good enough with their performances”, said Theo.

Mango Entertainment, the organizers of the show, has defended the performances. Their representative Steve Kamanga believes it is normal for shows to have hiccups here and there.

“Events of this magnitude always bring with them issues that cannot be controlled”, he said.

This was the first time that Cassper Nyovest who claims to have Malawian roots has performed in Malawi. Cassper has produced hit songs like Shebeleza and is also a record producer.
