Police in Machinga have arrested a 28 year old who broke into Mpalangwazi School head teacher’s office in Machinga where he set ablaze teaching and learning materials and church pews, church hymns and choir drums at a nearby St Pio Roman Catholic church.
Sources gathered by FaceofMalawi indicate that the suspect was identified as Majidu Ibrahima and is considered to be mentally unstable.
Ibrahima hails from Matuta Village, Senior Chief Nyambi in the district.
According to authorities at Machinga Police, Ibrahima was arrested last Thursday after being found with a wall clock and a ream of papers from Mpalangwazi School.
Before breaking into the head teacher’s office, police allege that Ibrahima broke into St Pio Church which is under Mpiri Parish of Mangochi Diocese.
FOM speaki9ng with Mana reporter Evans Chisiano explained that the Mpalangwazi school staff, traditional leaders around the school and learners woke up shocked last Friday to see smoke and ashes of the remains of church assets and school learning and teaching materials.
Machinga Police is expected to send him to Zomba Mental hospital to establish his medical status.
