The ruling party the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has announced that it has set today 11th March as Liberation Day.
According DPP Director of Youth in the Central Region, Lameck Malimba said the day is to commemorate a year when its President Professor Peter Mutharika was arrested on alleged treason charges by the previous administration.
The party has lined up a number of activities in Lilongwe to mark the day revealed Malimba.
One of the events will be painting a cell in which President Mutharika was locked up alongside other DPP leaders.
Professor Mutharika will also be visiting Maula Prison in the city of Lilongwe.
According to the state house press office, the President’s involvement in the activities is to underline his administration’s commitment that no one in Malawi will be arrested on political grounds.
